Glanbia's team at Glanbia Nutritionals recently received the 2022 Pollution Prevention Champion Award in Twin Falls, Idaho, from the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality for their efforts to reduce waste in the cheese making process. This award was only given out to two companies in the entire state, one of which was Glanbia Nutritionals.
The Twin Falls plant located off Washington Street, has cut its biochemical oxygen demand in wastewater by over 200 pounds per day and total suspended solids in wastewater by over 300 pounds per day. The plant has also reduced chemical use by 13,000 gallons per year in cleaning operations and recorded 8.9 million gallons per year in water savings in 2022 compared to the previous year. That’s the annual equivalent water usage of 81 family homes.
Glanbia Nutritionals is prioritising sustainability across the entire business globally with the understanding that the most important connections will always be to the earth, air, water and each other.
Glanbia is committed to achieving True Zero Waste Certification by 2025 and reducing food waste by 50% by 2030. We are taking action on climate change by using less water and energy. Repurposing, recycling and eliminating waste is a top priority. The scale of the challenge means partnering with suppliers to nurture the land, safeguard animal welfare and protect biodiversity.
