Responsible Sourcing

Our Responsible Procurement Programme sets out our supplier selection criteria and integrates sustainability into the procurement processes, procedures and systems with key stakeholders.

We focus on ensuring and re-enforcing compliance with all applicable laws on anti-slavery and human trafficking requiring our suppliers to confirm acceptance and conformance with the relevant Glanbia policies.

In 2023, we continued to complete a risk assessment of our supply base assessing ESG and procurements risks. The results of this risk assessment enable us to prioritise the suppliers that require a more in-depth assessment using the EcoVadis platform. EcoVadis is a global trusted provider of business sustainability ratings. In 2023 we have EcoVadis scorecards for 54% of our total spend.

2024 priorities

Our focus for 2024 is to continue to expand our visibility of supplier ESG performance through participation in the EcoVadis programme and work with them to improve, where required.

Dairy supply

Working with Idaho milk suppliers on a journey of continuous improvement has seen Glanbia Nutritionals require suppliers to be in full standing with the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) and their Farmers Assuring Responsible Management (FARM) programmes. FARM provides the evidence that US dairy farmers are operating to the highest standards.

We work with our milk suppliers under the US Dairy Net Zero Initiative (NZI) as part of the Environmental Stewardship Committee of the Innovation Centre for US Dairy, which convenes the entire dairy supply chain.

In 2023, Glanbia Nutritionals funded comprehensive environmental assessments for a representative set of small, medium and large dairy farms in Idaho, to develop detailed plans for greenhouse gas emissions reduction on their farms. The assessments were carried out by Newtrient, an organisation that specialises in helping dairy farms reduce the environmental footprint of dairy and make it economically viable to do so. In a positive next step towards a more sustainable dairy industry, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded Newtrient funding to support a dairy methane emission reduction project in Idaho.
