Flavour dynamics shaping the yogurt category

Nutritious and delicious, yogurt is enjoyed worldwide by consumers of all ages. For brands looking to stay ahead of the latest yogurt trends, understanding today’s most popular yogurt flavours is essential.

Once again, strawberry flavour is dominating global yogurt product launches, followed by other long-standing favourites: vanilla, peach, and blueberry (1). These four also lead new yogurt launches in the US, but with blueberry slightly ahead of peach (2).

With more than half of US and Canadian consumers reporting that familiar flavours influence their food and beverage choices, brands can expect classic fruit flavours to remain extremely popular in the yogurt category (4).

Flavour preferences by region and demographic

Although classic fruit yogurt flavours are widely enjoyed, consumer yogurt preferences can vary significantly by geographic region. For example, mixed berry is popular in the US, while mango is a favourite yogurt flavour in Latin America and Asia. Mango has also become the third most common flavour in new yogurt launches in Europe, joining strawberry, vanilla, peach and blueberry in the top five (5).

In China, alongside strawberry, vanilla and blueberry, the top five flavours in recent launches include red raspberry and apricot (6). Additionally, green grape, lychee, aloe vera, milk chocolate and orange flavours are gaining prominence in the Chinese yogurt market (7) which is largely dominated by drinkable yogurt formats.

Generational differences are also shaping trends and creating new opportunities in the category. Gen Z consumers tend to favour bold and adventurous flavours, while Millennials and Gen X are more often driven by wellness and lifestyle motivations, ranging from gut health benefits to increased protein intake for weight management and workout support.

Emerging and trending yogurt flavours for 2026

Emerging yogurt flavour trends to watch include matcha, turmeric, chai, coconut lime and yuzu—many of which reflect broader consumer trends in functional health benefits and global exploration.

Another trending area is indulgent, dessert-style flavours and pairings such as Chobani Flip Strawberry Cheesecake Lowfat Greek Yogurt with Graham Cookies, Creamy Frosting Chunks & Coated Rice Crisps. Coconut Cult Lemon + Olive Oil Wedding Cake Probiotic Coconut Yogurt, which features lemon meringue yogurt with cake bites at the bottom, is another example of raising the bar on decadence.

One in two consumers in the US and Canada is interested in trying flavour fusions and combinations (8) while more than one in three in Europe agree they look for crazy creations that provide the ultimate indulgent experience (9).

These insights highlight the need for agile flavour innovation to keep pace with consumer expectations. Limited-time offerings (LTOs) and seasonal flavours can be valuable options for testing new flavour profiles and gauging consumer response.
