Ben Chen’s People-First Leadership in ASPAC

As Head of Human Resources, Glanbia H&N, ASPAC, Ben Chen leads the people strategy across eleven markets in the Asia-Pacific region. In one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse business environments, his role is focused on enabling growth by empowering people.

“No two days are the same,” Ben explains. “That’s what makes the role so energising.”

His day often begins early, connecting with global colleagues in the US and Ireland to align on HR optimisation and standardisation initiatives. Across time zones, collaboration is key to ensuring regional priorities are connected to global strategy. Throughout the day, Ben stays closely attuned to the needs of teams across APAC — whether that’s supporting business transformation, advancing talent development, strengthening DEI initiatives, or enhancing employee engagement.

Collaboration remains central to his work. From facilitating cross-functional workshops with senior leaders to refining leadership development programmes and wellbeing initiatives for remote teams, Ben ensures the people agenda directly supports business growth. “Every action ultimately connects back to creating an environment where our people feel valued, supported and aligned to our purpose,” he says.

What motivates Ben most is navigating complexity. Operating across eleven markets means embracing cultural nuance and responding to rapid change. “Asia moves fast. The challenge — and the opportunity — lies in turning that complexity into momentum. When you see diverse teams come together and thrive, it’s incredibly rewarding.”

Beyond the professional impact, Ben believes the company’s values-driven culture sets it apart. He describes an environment where values are embedded into everyday decisions and interactions, reinforced by a strong culture of recognition and collaboration. “When values are truly lived, they create belonging. That’s powerful.”

Outside of work, Ben maintains balance through boxing and Tai Chi — practices that help him cultivate both energy and focus. He is also passionate about wine appreciation and lifelong learning. Since 2011, he has been dedicated to public welfare initiatives supporting people with disabilities and children with serious illnesses — a commitment he describes as deeply transformative, both personally and professionally.

For Ben, leadership is about connection, purpose and growth — creating opportunities where both people and business can thrive.
