Glanbia is driving action to achieve our sustainability targets through a number of exciting projects underway across our manufacturing facilities. At our Glanbia Nutritionals site in Orsingen, Germany we recently installed a new photovoltaic (PV) system to support our target of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.

Construction on the project began in March this year and was completed by May. The project has successfully delivered 1,584 solar panels covering an area of 5,636 m² on the roof of the site building. The solar panels are converting sunlight into electricity and providing a renewable and clean source of energy for our operations. The new PV system will significantly reduce our CO2 footprint as the panels will produce 740,520 kWh of electricity per year.

An additional project at the site has converted our entire vehicle fleet to e-vehicles and plug-in vehicles. There are now six charging columns available and the installation of additional columns is in the planning stage. Employees can now charge their personal vehicles with clean solar power.

Our team worked with a local solar company to successfully complete this project and are deeply committed to developing more sustainable ways of doing business at the site. Our Group MD, Siobhan Talbot, along with Brian Phelan, CEO of Glanbia Nutritionals and Tom Tench, Chief Operating Officer for Glanbia Nutritionals visited Orsingen recently to congratulate the team on the project.

Brian Phelan commented: Congratulations to our team on the installation of this new PV system which will produce up to one quarter of Orsingen’s annual energy consumption with clean solar power. This project is a great example of how we are acting to improve the sustainability footprint of our operations and to achieve our ambitious ESG targets.'
