The Great Pink Run with Glanbia has been a firm date in the diary of Glanbia employees in Ireland for six years where employees and their families and friends come out to support Breast Cancer Ireland in their effort to raise much-needed funds for Breast Cancer Research.
Initially a collaboration with Avonmore Slimline Milk, Glanbia came on board in 2017 to sponsor the main event in the Phoenix Park in Dublin.
Glanbia was subsequently instrumental in establishing a second Great Pink Run event in Kilkenny Castle Park - the first outside of the Phoenix Park. In 2019 Glanbia and Breast Cancer Ireland took the event to Chicago where Glanbia has a large employee base.
Employees and locals alike came out to create a ‘sea of pink’ that took Diversey Harbor by storm on October 5th. The family-friendly event offered a 5k run, jog or walk and a 10k challenge and brought together men women and children of all ages and levels in support of collaborative breast cancer programmes between leading US and Irish centres of excellence.
Proceeds from the 2019 Great Pink Run with Glanbia have benefitted Research A Cure, a not-for-profit organisation, established to support international breast cancer research. Funds raised supported Chicago’s own Ludwig Breast Centre at the University of Chicago, directed by Professor Geoffrey Greene.Over 1,000 people came out for the inaugural event with some 200 Glanbia employees and their families also involved. The event was led out by the legendary Irish running Olympic champion, Sonia O’ Sullivan who travelled to the Chicago especially for the race last year.
The series of races raised over €625,000 for breast cancer research in the US and Ireland. Plans for 2020 are already in train!
