Advancing water stewardship across our global operations

Water is essential to Glanbia’s operations and to the communities where we operate. As part of our Better Nutrition, Better World sustainability strategy, we set a target to reduce freshwater withdrawal by 10% by 2025, compared to our 2021 baseline.

In 2025, we achieved a 9% reduction in manufacturing freshwater use, representing strong progress and a significant improvement on 2024 performance. This progress was driven by efficiency improvements and site-level optimisation initiatives across our dairy network.

Each major dairy site established cross-functional teams focused on identifying practical ways to reduce water use. Investments in enhanced metering and real-time monitoring provided greater visibility of water consumption and helped identify further opportunities for savings.

At our largest dairy processing site in Gooding, Idaho, improved real-time monitoring enabled teams to prioritise high-impact projects and deliver measurable reductions. Other sites including Twin Falls, Blackfoot, Richfield and St. Johns also achieved strong improvements, demonstrating the value of collaboration, data-driven insights and continuous improvement.

At water-stressed locations such as Clovis, New Mexico and Twin Falls, Idaho, teams prioritised the recovery and reuse of condensate water generated during milk processing. Increasing condensate reuse helps reduce reliance on freshwater withdrawals and supports long-term water resilience.

“Reducing water use across our operations is an important part of how we build a more sustainable and resilient business. This progress reflects the commitment and collaboration of teams across our network who continue to identify practical ways to improve efficiency, strengthen water stewardship and support the communities where we operate. While we are encouraged by the progress made, we remain focused on continuing to reduce our environmental impact and drive further improvements across our operations” said Tom Tench, CEO Dairy Nutrition.

Looking ahead, we plan to expand water recycling opportunities, invest in additional water-saving technologies and share best practices across our network.
