Meet our graduates

A great place to work? Don’t take our word for it.

We think working with Glanbia is great, but don’t just take our word for it. Here’s what some of our graduates have to say about us.

Digital Media Associate, B.Sc. Multimedia – DCU

When I learned how big Glanbia is, how many brands it has and of its constant growth and entry to new markets, I decided it was something I wanted to be part of.

Glanbia is place where hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. The fast-paced environment requires you to push yourself and learn on the job. You’re given lots of responsibility from an early stage, your opinion is valued and your insights are taken on board, so you really push yourself to come up with ideas and add value.

This year I’ve spent a lot of time in the US working on the UX design process for a large project which has been really exciting and challenging. There’s always a pipeline of big projects to look forward to and I know I’ll continue to learn.

Declan Dunne
Engineering Associate, Mechanical Engineering – University of Limerick

I’ve always been interested in how things work and from an early age I wanted a career in engineering. Since joining Glanbia, I’ve gained experience in two departments. First in a high volume cheese plant, where I was given lots of responsibility managing people and processes, while developing skills to work through challenging situations.

I then moved to Glanbia Performance Systems where I gained valuable experience identifying areas for improvement, developing solutions, training people and driving change, while receiving great support and mentoring from colleagues.

The most exciting thing I‘ve done since joining was successfully completing a project resulting in over €40,000 of annual savings for Glanbia. I also gained an accredited Lean Six Sigma qualification once the savings had been realised. For my second year I’ll be moving to New Mexico as a project engineer on a large expansion project. It’s a great opportunity to gain international work experience.

Gavin Barry
Accounting and Finance Associate, MBS Management Information and Management Accounting Systems – UCC

I chose Glanbia as it’s an ever-growing Irish company and it provides a clear path for career progression. There is a big focus on further training such as leadership and management courses, and there is an opportunity to work on international assignments, which is not something every company offers.

For the past year I’ve worked in Shared Services providing financial services to the rest of the Glanbia business units. Here we put in the extra hours and go the extra mile to give the business units what they need to service external customers to the best of their ability.

Glanbia has supported me in working through my CIMA professional accounting qualification and continue to do so. The most exciting thing I'll do is working in the US, a great way to experience a new culture while working in one of Glanbia’s business units. I’ll receive more training in areas such as project management, which will set me up to take on more senior roles in the coming years.

Orla Prior
Procurement Associate, Supply Chain Management – UCD Smurfit

I joined Glanbia because of the opportunity for fast career growth in an ambitious global company. Through the mix of project work, mentoring and global opportunities the programme offers, I knew I’d have the chance to make a meaningful, positive impact, build on my skills and excel in my field.

Glanbia’s success is built on the talent of its people. They are skilled, ambitious, and innovative, with the ability to both lead and collaborate. I’ve been really impressed by the investment into learning and development. I’ve attended training days and webinars which keep me up to date with best practice in my field. I will soon be starting a project management course, and a strategic procurement online course with one of America’s top universities. This year, I also begin my secondment to Twin Falls, Idaho.

Glanbia really sees its graduates as future leaders of the business. The programme is a fantastic springboard into the company.

Róisín Murphy
R&D Technologist, Nutritional Science – UCC

I've always been very determined. At the moment I'm the captain of the Wexford Ladies Football Team and I wanted to be part of a successful ambitious international company that provided a work environment that would push me to learn and improve. I started this graduate position not knowing exactly what role I wanted or how I would fit into a company structure. After two years on the programme I now view my place in Glanbia differently.

The experience I've gained from being thrown into the deep end in the workplace, the additional courses and training I've received, and the advice and guidance from managers and mentors has helped me develop a confidence in my ability to really add value to the company.

Working with Glanbia has given me a hunger for the opportunities that await me. I'm excited to see where my career will take me and I look forward to the relationships I will build along the way. Glanbia creates a progressive environment for development that doesn’t stop when you transfer from a graduate role.

Aisling Furlong
Digital Media Associate, Business Information Systems - UCC

I work on the Digital Media team, delivering digital excellence across more than 35 websites and apps.

My role is extremely varied. I gather and assess business requirements, review and implement technical scenarios, manage any on-going open actions and issues, implement UAT test scripts, on-going bug tracking, debugging and change request management and most importantly managing business and technical relationships within the business and off-shore teams.

Depending on the project, I also get to do some front-end web development. For example, we recently developed a nutritional site from end to end, everything from the initial idea and brainstorming, to UX, high fidelity designs, infrastructure, development, go live and maintenance, receiving top-class one-to-one training throughout the process.

When a site goes live I also manage content uploads, edits and maintenance across numerous CMS platforms, including site monitoring for downtime. I’ve recently been introduced to the more social side of Glanbia, engaging with users across multiple platforms in our Social Media Command Centre.

Glanbia is growing constantly with plenty of opportunities to enhance and broaden your skills. Our Digital Media team uses the most modern technology available and we’re constantly looking for new processes, platforms, features, and tools to aid the business. It’s a constant learning curve with a modern twist.

Oisin Dorgan
Associate Programmer, Computer Science, UCC

When I first joined Glanbia, I could never have predicted the level of real-world experience I would gain. The transition from programming personal projects and college exercises to programming in Glanbia’s SAP system was huge but the support and training I’ve received from other team members has made it seamless.

As somebody with a technical background it’s great to see that Glanbia is willing to move forward with the implementation of new technologies that make life easier for the customer and the programmers. An example of this is the introduction of Neptune software, which quickly and easily allows us to develop user-friendly applications with SAP functionality on phone, tablet and desktop. This progressive attitude is something I actively sought out when I chose to work for Glanbia.

Outside of work projects, one of the highlights has been joining the Sports and Social Club Committee. Organising great company social events has helped me become more confident in my organisational skills and helped me meet new people.

My goal is to develop a well-rounded IT and business skillset and gain as much real-world experience as possible. Whether this experience is travelling to a new country or spending time in a new role within the business I know Glanbia will help me to achieve this goal.

John Kerr
Engineering Project Manager, Chemical Engineering, UCD

The opportunity for fast career growth was one of the main reasons I joined Glanbia and the graduate programme is a fantastic springboard into the company.

In my first year I was given the opportunity to manage over €2 million worth of engineering investments, through various capital projects. In my second year I was given the opportunity to work on a multi-million state-of-the-art grain-milling facility project in the US. This was a fantastic opportunity, getting to be central to the project team and leading the automation commissioning of the new facility.

After this I moved to one of our facilities in California as an Engineering Project Manager and now I’m currently moving into a new role as Engineering Project Manager with responsibility for engineering projects across multiple sites in Ireland. All this and I only graduated from college three years ago!

It’s a fast-paced, fun environment, always chasing the next project or opportunity, and you get real opportunities to deliver on real projects. You won’t come into Glanbia and feel like just another graduate, you will be challenged for solutions and as you succeed your role will grow and grow.

Opportunity. That’s what a career in Glanbia offers more than anything else. The company is growing fast, and as my ambitions continue to grow, so do the opportunities.

Sean Lawlor
Category Analyst, Business and Management, DIT

I wanted a Graduate Program that would enhance my skills and experience, and Glanbia has given me that. The responsibility and exposure I’ve had, through my interaction with various different Business Units, has far exceeded anything I could have hoped for.

Since joining I‘ve been involved in a number of exciting projects. I was given the opportunity to be involved in the Belview project, a new state-of-the-art dairy processing facility in Co. Kilkenny. I was granted the responsibility of initiating and managing a number of tenders sourcing new suppliers for the plant and I also managed the on-going relationships with these suppliers.

I was a member of the team responsible for the integration of the Wexford Creamery (an acquisition in 2014) into Glanbia Ingredients Ireland and the implementation of SAP there. This posed a whole array of new challenges, but the result was hugely rewarding.

One of my career ambitions is to travel and gain international experience. Last year I moved to Chicago to spend a year in the Glanbia Performance Nutrition business and this year I was offered a fulltime role with Glanbia Performance Nutrition as a Category Analyst. Glanbia’s investment in each Graduate’s personal and professional development is something I have been overwhelmed by.
